    Bannister bounces back to beat O’s

    Twelve straight losses to the Baltimore Orioles was a dirty dozen for Kansas City Royals.

    Brian Bannister allowed two singles in eight innings and the Royals beat Baltimore 4-0 Sunday to end their skid against the Orioles.

    It was Kansas City’s first victory over Baltimore since July 25, 2006.

    “Regardless if you were here all 12 of those losses, I think we needed to take it on ourselves to end this thing,” Bannister said.

    Royals 4, Orioles 0

    Brian Bannister allowed two singles in eight innings and the Kansas City Royals beat Baltimore 4-0 Sunday to end their 12-game skid against the Orioles.

    It was Kansas City’s first victory over Baltimore since July 25, 2006.

    Bannister struck out five and walked two to end a personal four-game losing streak. He did not allow a runner to reach second. Joakim Soria tossed a perfect ninth to finish Kansas City’s fourth shutout of the year.

    Bannister was 0-4 with an 8.

    The Baltimore Orioles purchased the contract of infielder Alex Cintron from Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday and optioned right-hander Bob McCroy to their top farm club. Cintron is a career .277 hitter in 598 games with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Chicago White Sox. He hit .243 with two home runs and 19 RBIs last season with the White Sox.

    The Baltimore Orioles purchased the contract of infielder Alex Cintron from Class AAA Norfolk on Sunday.

    Kevin Millar hit a three-run homer and finished with three hits to help the Baltimore Orioles beat Kansas City 6-5 on a rainy Saturday night for their 12th straight victory over the Royals.

    Millar, who entered hitting just .186 in his previous 15 games, homered just inside the left-field foul pole on a 2-1 pitch from Brett Tomko (1-4) with two out in the first. Brian Roberts and Melvin Mora, both aboard after singles, scored on Millar’s fifth home run.

    Orioles LF Payton ejected (PA SportsTicker)

    KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) - Baltimore Orioles left fielder Jay Payton was ejected from Saturday’s game against the Kansas City Royals for arguing balls and strikes.

    Orioles 2B Roberts out with foot injury

    Baltimore second baseman Brian Roberts left the Orioles’ game against the Royals in the bottom of the first inning Saturday night with a bruised left foot. He was listed as day-to-day.

    Roberts, who led off the game with a single to raise his average to .257, did not return after a rain delay of 1:52 in game at Kansas City. Roberts, a 2007 All-Star selection who had played in all 38 games this season, was replaced by Luis Hernandez.
